The TOP programmes are a series of linked schemes run by the Youth Sport Trust, designed to offer all young people the opportunity to participate and progress in sport, currently being implemented in school and communities all over the UK. The following details are included with the authority of the Youth Sport Trust.
TOP Outdoors mirrors the Outdoor and Adventurous Activity strand of the National Curriculum for Physical Education in England - however, it contains a host of ideas reproduced on bright colourful resource cards applicable in most school and community settings.
The cards provide teachers and community leaders with lots of ways of introducing outdoor activities to young children beginning in the familiar school environment.
In England, these resources are supported with training for teachers - please talk to us about ways in which this can be replicated in your country.
We have attached the introductory card (side 1 (GIF, 102KB), side 2 (GIF, 103KB)) with an example Trail O card (side 1 (GIF, 105KB), side 2 (GIF, 106KB)). Please note that ways of including young disabled people feature throughout the programme.
You can find out more, for example how to bring TOP to other countries, by writing to Dr Sue Campbell at the Youth Sport Trust
